Manager Mark Warburton was thrilled with a six nil scoreline against Dumbarton in our last game.

Strikes coming from a Kenny Miller hattrick, another Martyn Waghorn strike allied to goals from Andy Halliday and James Tavernier gave Rangers the comfortable and comprehensive victory on our trip away from Ibrox at the weekend, and speaking to the Official Site in his after game press interviews, the gaffer explained.

‘It was a really pleasing performance today. We knew this was a tough place to come with the wind etc., but our tempo was good from the first whistle and our quality all around was good. We pressed together and worked hard together, so I am delighted with the performance. We spoke in the dressing room before the game about being aware of the circumstances and dealing with them, of trying to impose ourselves on the game and dominating the football, as when we do that, we look a really good team, and I thought in the second half especially, we did that. A lot of the work was done in the first half though. Dumbarton worked really well to keep their shape, but we kept moving the football. We then got the rewards in the second half so all-round it was a great afternoon`s work. They have worked teams really hard of late and they are well-organised and tough to break down, and we knew the quality of challenge today. We responded really well however and delivered a very pleasing performance today.’

With Miller getting three goals and Tavernier notching three assists as well, they came in for particular praise from the gaffer.

‘Kenny knows he is impacting the team and he has fully justified his new contract. He scored goals early in the season, and yes, it did go quiet but contributes so much training-wise and off the pitch. It`s all about players adding value both on a matchday and everyday at Murray Park. So I am delighted for Kenny getting the match ball today. In the first half, Tav would be the first to say that little bit of quality on the final ball wasn`t quite there, but in the second half he was excellent. His goal too was a tremendous finish with great technique, so I am delighted for him.’

With the first game of 2016 clearly building upon the Hibernian result at the end of last year, that also pleased the manager.

‘It was good to follow up like that after the Hibs game where we played in front of a huge crowd and a great playing surface with that game where we went to a smaller venue, with a crowd of only 2000 and a difficult pitch and weather conditions, and to produce a performance of that quality was really pleasing. Kenny`s worth to the team has never been in question, and he earned his new playing contract. Now, it`s all about how we use Kenny. He trains so well and looks after himself too, so I am delighted for him, and all over the park we had good performances. I thought Martyn Waghorn followed up a very strong performance against Hibs with another on Saturday, likewise Barrie McKay too. In midfield we were strong and in goal Wes displayed good levels of concentration.’

With ten goals in two games, he added.

‘I mentioned before the Hibs game that in the games we dropped points, we didn`t deserve to drop points – we had played well and didn`t get our rewards. The random nature of football didn`t go our way, and we didn`t get the rewards so we have to learn from that, and that was shown in the game against Hibs and against Dumbarton. They quality of performance, the ball retention, the desire to get the rewards and the general all-round effort was first class.’
