Hamilton’s first win in five – after four successive defeats – couldn’t have come at a better time. Only the seventh victory of the season, the campaigns biggest winning margin of 4-0 over Dundee ensured Academical avoided automatic relegation from the Premiership, but they’ll have to overcome Dundee United in the relegation-promotion play-off.

Despite a 3-2 win over Motherwell it couldn’t prevent bottom-side Caledonian Thistle from being relegated to the Championship – due to the Hamilton victory – for the first time since a topflight return in 2010.

Kilmarnock lost a lead as Ross County came from behind to win 2-1, securing seventh place ahead of Killie, eighth.

Long ago crowned champions once again, Celtic’s 2-0 win in the visit of Hearts to Celtic Park saw them become the first side to go unbeaten in the topflight of Scotland in 118 years – having already won the league and League Cup the Hoops go for the treble against Aberdeen on Saturday.

Having been thrashed by champions Celtic in midweek, Partick Thistle were thumped again as second-placed Aberdeen recorded a resounding 6-0 win at Firhill to round off the league season. The Dons bid to end it with some silverware against Celtic – denying the Hoops the treble – on Saturday.

St Johnstone, fourth, ended the season nine points behind third-placed Rangers as Pedro Caixinha’s much changed side recorded a 2-1 victory at McDiarmid Park, a first visit for the Gers’ boss.
