Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the new manager of Rangers.

The news has just been delivered in the last few minutes, via Rangers official website.

Van Bronckhorst was quoted as saying:

“I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Rangers as the club’s new manager.”

“I feel so lucky to be going to work with a squad which is in a great position on all fronts and largely has that experience of being winners.”

“I look forward to carrying on and enhancing the work that has been done already alongside Ross Wilson and the board of the club, and I’m grateful for the chance to work again at this huge football club.”

This news provides a crucial boost to everyone at the club, after a hectic last 10 days.

With Sunday’s game against Hibs looming large, it is not expected that GvB will be in control at Hampden but that remains to be confirmed. Further details will be revealed very soon, in what is a very busy upcoming period for the club.

The memorial service for Walter Smith is at Glasgow Cathedral tomorrow, then comes the semi-final against Hibs followed up by Sparta Prague in the Europa League at Ibrox as the Dutchman Van Bronckhorst makes his return to Ibrox at a very busy, crucial time.

He will relish the challenge ahead – Welcome Gio!
