In a game where the referee actually had a decent game, he didn’t half make some stinking decisions.

To clarify, at least John Beaton was booking players for obvious yellow card offences, the ones where players were getting pulled back or obstructed – ones with no intent to play the ball.

But, as noticed by Rangers fans on social media – and bearing in mind the stonewall penalty he got completely wrong – the strangest decision of the night reached new levels, even for a referee almost unanimously slated by Scottish football fans.

John Beaton is....

Biased

Biased

Useless

Useless

Livingston’s keeper, Max Stryjek, had spent 80 minutes delaying the game before he was finally booked but as soon as Rangers went in front, Allan McGregor was on the clock – and this is when Beaton seized his chance, Bongani Zungu was in the process of coming on as a sub for Ryan Kent and whilst the change was being made, the Gers number 1 was cautioned for time wasting.

Work that one out.

Needless to say, fans were far from impressed…

Until the referees in Scotland are given help – of any kind – we will continue to see decisions like this and the one that saw Alfredo Morelos booked when he was taken out by Stryjek, at least make them full-time so they can learn the basics like not giving yellow cards for time wasting when a sub is being made.
