Malik Tillman has rightfully taken the plaudits for his performance against Motherwell on Wednesday night as the German-American was pivotal for Rangers in the 3-0 win.

As the games progress, there is more evidence of a understanding with Alfredo Morelos and Tillman getting into his stride at Ibrox. His qualities were evidenced with great effect at Pittodrie recently when he was a key figure in the dramatic 3-2 comeback so it was important that he followed up on it.

With his goal against Motherwell, the Bayern Munich loanee showed his composure inside the box, in addition to his good work around it, in combination with others. If anything, there should have been more impact from the 20-year old, as much as he enjoyed key moments in the game. The visitors struggled to deal with his movement and deft footwork at times, leaving much space in the final third to inflict damage.

The Rangers attacker said following the midweek victory:

“We won but I think in the first half, we didn’t reach our level. In the second half, it was a bit better, but all in all, I think we can still improve a lot and hopefully we are going to give a better game on Monday.”

“I am always happy to score or assist and today I got it also in front of my family, so that pleased me a lot.”

“The team always comes first, and I try to help them as best as I can.”

Challenge

Moving forward, one of the main questions Malik Tillman will face is if he can perform to a high level consistently and when it matters. The first key test in this regard will come on Monday against Celtic.
