“There was interest” – Transfer insider reveals Gers trio news

Rangers did well to keep a hold of their key players this summer, however, much of this was to do with a shortage of concrete offers rather than having to persuade them to stay.

The usual suspects of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Glen Kamara were all rumoured to have clubs sniffing about and, speaking to GiveMeSport, self proclaimed “transfer insider” Dean Jones, supported these claims but expressed his surprise that one of them in particular is still at Ibrox:

“There was interest in the three of them but I am probably most surprised that Kamara didn’t go.

“There was such interest in him from across Europe and a few clubs in the Premier League that I thought he would go and it just didn’t materialise.”

It’s the nature of the current transfer market that a player like Kamara could have such an excellent season for his club, followed with an exceptional major tournament and yet it still wasn’t enough to persuade clubs to part with their cash.

Ross Wilson has spoken before about selling when the time is right rather than just accepting the first bids that come into the club and it may be that he has taken a hard line with valuations when picking up the phone to cash rich Premier League sides in particular – the money spent by Arsenal in particular an indication that we shouldn’t accept anything less than what we believe is a fair price.

The up side is it means that we still have our best players and are in good shape to mount a solid defence of our Scottish Premiership title and to reach the knockout stages of the Europa League for the third year in a row.
