Rangers boss Michael Beale has spoken on the extent of player turnover that lies ahead this Summer with significant changes required.

He is right that the group is too big with an estimate of around 25% to be replaced. Some of the eight players whose contracts will expire in the coming months will be amongst those to depart Ibrox.

Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Filip Helander and Malik Tillman are those affected with their respective futures to be negotiated and set out.

The club will not want to, nor can’t, keep all of the above names and for different reasons.

Dialogue is said to be in progress with Morelos and Kent but if they leave Glasgow at the end of the campaign, they would need to be replaced with significant quality given their status in the squad. The same applies to Allan McGregor and the expectation that a new number one goalkeeper will be acquired in time for 2023/24.

For others, it will be a case of shaking hands and moving on. There are a couple of obvious contenders for that category with age and injury representing prominent factors that will feature in the decisions made by Michael Beale.

Here is a ten word verdict on those eight out of contract players, as it stands now:

Morelos – Thanks for everything but it’s time to go separate ways.

Kent – New contract but only if he has the hunger required.

McGregor – Club legend, legacy secured. Time to bow out this Summer.

Davis – Massive fitness battle ahead but could provide cheap, safe option.

Jack – Should keep on reduced terms, but can also be replaced.

Arfield – Five years of fine service but the end is near.

Helander – Contributed to 55, but injuries mean no case for renewal.

Tillman – Do the deal with Bayern Munich, only going to improve.

You must be joking , you would give Davis a new contract as a cheap option ? A cheap option as what ? Davis was poor before he got injured and like McGregor his time is up .Arfield has contributed far more this season than Davis and deserves a new contract much more. Keep Kent if possible and the rest can go including show pony Tillman and injury prone Jack.We don`t need to pay that kind of money for Tillman if we already have Lawrence ,Cantwell and Lowry .Add a genuine winger or two at the expense of Wright , Matondo and Sakala and the creative three has better balance and more options
