Manager Ally McCoist has called on the team to take the performance levels they showed against Stenhousemuir into the game tonight against Ayr United.
Rangers got more back to their best in our last game and we came out four nil winners, and the gaffer wants to see a similar performance and showing as we look to end the league season on a high, despite already being crowned Champions, because he wants to see our record continue and he knows in some ways it’ll help make up for Cup disappointments.
Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, he explained.
‘We really needed to win the game but the level of performance and the quality of one or two of the finishes were an added bonus. Saturday’s was one of our better performances in recent weeks and it was just the boost everybody needed after a couple of disappointing results. Hopefully, with three games left, we can continue playing well and with a bit of pressure off the boys, hopefully we can just go and enjoy them.’
The aim for Ally obviously is to try and go unbeaten in the league and go through the entire season without losing, and only dropping four points in the process of securing promotion and the title, as he does know that would be a fantastic achievement for us if it can be managed.
‘How big an achievement it would be is for everybody else to argue about, but winning the league is an achievement. If you’re fortunate to do it undefeated, that’s an achievement as well but it’s not for us to get involved in the argument about how much.’
Trying to go unbeaten for the entire League One campaign is also something goalkeeper Cammy Bell has called on the team to achieve with three matches remaining.
In his own pre match interview, he acknowledges each of the games left will be tricky and we will have to be at our best again, so he’s knows there’s lots of hard work left to be done before the history books become involved, as both Ayr and Stranraer especially are gunning for a play off space, so it won’t be an end of season game for them.
‘We want to win all three and keep our unbeaten run going but we’ve got to take each game as it comes and we’ve got a big one coming up against Ayr first. But to go unbeaten through any league is a phenomenal achievement, we’ll just have to wait and see if we can do it first.’
