Rangers surprised many today by announcing a new signing in the form of Andy Firth.

The goalkeeper has spent time in non-league football in England and Steven Gerrard knows him as he was part of the Liverpool academy.

Certainly, it’s a signing we perhaps didn’t see coming even yesterday but, nevertheless, it has happened and we welcome him to the club:

Clearly, Steven wanted more competition for Allan McGregor but it remains to be seen what this exactly means for Wes Foderingham.

It’s definitely caught many of our fans unaware, too, and so let’s take a look at the reaction to the news with it a mixture of bemusement and surprise:

An unknown signing for the Gers, then, but sometimes these are the best ones and I will hold off of passing judgement until we have seen him play.

He’ll have a job getting in, though, given the form McGregor has been in this season.
