Follow the science, they said.

After First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid update this afternoon the situation is really unclear with common sense, logic and reason seemingly out the window.

For large outdoor/stadia events, attendance has been set an an arbitrary 2000 figure, regardless of scale, stadium size and proportion.

Make it make sense please – how can this be the case after the recent crowds at Hampden for Euro 2020 as well as the rugby at Murrayfield.

How is this progress and where is the consistency?

The update has bemused many football fans, with plenty taking to social media, reacting with a mix of anger and mockery.

The same feeling was prevalent from Celtic fans:

Now, it has been stated that 2000 is the minimum number of fans to be permitted in stadiums at Level 0, but it just doesn’t add up.

Before clubs should have to make further requests and presentations to be able to let more supporters inside, why can’t there be more consistency applied across the board?

The language and tone used by Sturgeon was, again, authorative, unclear and nor engaging.

Fans, of several shades, are getting increasingly frustrated when looking down to England as well as casting minds back a few weeks when things were suddenly very different in Scotland – whether that be under the banner of UEFA at Hampden or for the rugby at Murrayfield.

Over to you, SFA/SPFL.
