Rangers on/off deal for Bongani Zungu has taken a turn in the Ibrox club’s favour after it emerged that a loan deal now looks like the most likely outcome, according to Sky Sports.

The South African international is out of contract at the end of the season which would put Rangers in poll position to secure him on a permanent deal in January on a pre-contract agreement, should he make a positive impression.

The 27-year old has been at the centre of a saga with story and counter story about the reasons for a deal that appeared to be all but announced seemingly collapsing at the last minute, rumours circulated about the player’s physical condition leading to a failed medical where other sources claimed that it was Amiens insistence on a near £4million transfer fee.

Steven Gerrard needs an extra midfielder and preferably one that can drive his side on when there is a lack of urgency and tempo to his team’s play, Zungu is very much the sort of player – albeit not known for his goalscoring – that could raise the intensity of those around him with his forward thinking style of play.

With just a few hours left of the transfer window, if Rangers are to get any extra bodies over the line, the media team will be working overtime to get interviews and presentation videos produced, at the moment nothing is coming out of the club but given how speculation has been dealt with throughout this window, there could yet be a twist in the tail.
