Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker believes Rangers need to make improvements in attacking areas during next month’s transfer window.

January will be a chance for Steven Gerrard to re-assess his current squad at Ibrox, with the Gers boss making it clear he is seeking quality rather than quantity after signing so many players during the last transfer window.

For Walker, that means a player that can help support Alfredo Morelos over the second half of the season.

As quoted by The Star, the former Celtic striker said:

I think what Steven Gerrard, as Brendan Rodgers will be doing, is looking for is some serious strengthening up front.

I think the priority has got to be up top. Alfredo Morelos is top scorer and when he retains his composure and when he’s got a bit of temperament, when he can control his emotions, he has a big effect on any game he plays for Rangers.

But his disciplinary record is poor and I think Kyle Lafferty coming in hasn’t really risen to the challenge as yet.

That’s probably the conclusion most Rangers fans will reach too.

Although Alfredo Morelos was lethal today against St Johnstone, he can’t be expected to drag his entire team towards major honours this season on his own and having either a striker partner or competition could bring his game to new levels.

It’s shaping up to be a blockbuster end to the Scottish Premiership and the team that has the most sheer firepower are likely to be the ones to be lifting trophies come May.
