Alfredo Morelos was booked against Ayr United on Wednesday night and will miss the club’s League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
It’s fair to say that despite the preventable nature of the caution, Rangers fans aren’t happy with the officials and feel he was justified to complain about the tackle on him that led to his unhappiness.
The Colombian international was on the receiving end of Ayr’s physical game all night and after a particularly rough challenge he was unhappy and let his feelings known to Bobby Madden, who was quick to flash the yellow card.
It means he will be unavailable for the Hampden clash with the Dons, a match that Kyle Lafferty will also miss due to being cup-tied.
That leaves just Umar Sadiq as the natural striking option and he’s been largely missing so far this term since making the loan switch from Roma.
Fans were left frustrated by the whole situation and took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
Felt the bold Boaby Midden had a howler again tonight?! Some of the challenges on Ojaria, Kent and Middleton were more of a booking than Morelos being pissed of at being kicked lumps out of? Seems refs simply can’t wait to book him ffs.

Morelos gets two footed and throws his hand. Gets booked. Ayrs number 5, fouls Middleton and complains about an earlier challenge and throws his hand. No booking. Madden new Morelos needed one booking for suspension. #NoOneLikesUsWeDontCare

So morelos misses semis because of the yellow card he got last night , was wondering why the Ref was booking him – Madden had his name in the book before the game started ????

In that respect, it's a real pity to see Morelos being singled out by officials. His booking – off the back of an unpunished reckless tackle that could easily have broken his ankle – was silly but his reaction understandable. Hope his manager publicly supports him again.

I'd like to see exactly what it was Morelos did last night for the booking. I have no idea, I was stunned when I saw the yellow getting flashed. His 'hot-head' reputation (perpetuated by the media) means he's judged prior to any incident by mongo refs.

Morelos's second booking of the tournament a joke. Also, a sliding scale for players who enter the competition at a later stage should be considered. No chance to see out a ban at anything other than a critical stage.

There are player who officials always seem more eager to book, Morelos seems to fall into this category. The over reaction of the media/pundits towards him this season doesn’t help.
