It won’t come as much of a surprise but, Jack Simpson could be heading out of Ibrox in the January transfer window.

With just four appearances in total this season ina campaign where we have had an injury and covid crisis at centre-half, it doesn’t take Ross Wilson to work out that he falls into the category of non-contributing when analysing the squad.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst entertained the idea – albeit briefly – of playing James Tavernier alongside Connor Goldson says it all about his status at the club, by my reckoning he is seventh choice when you take this decision into consideration, if you include Niko Katic.

The good news is that The Daily Record has reported that several Championship sides in England are after him which could benefit us in the long run if he has a good second-half to the season. We didn’t pay much to release him from his last few months at Bournemouth and should still see a profit if we manage to sell him in the summer.

He has served his purpose in that he offered cover last season but with Bassey now a fully fledged centre-half, he simply isn’t needed – all he is doing is blocking Leon King’s path to the first team and collecting a wage whilst offering very little in return.

It was worth the punt, however, he needs to be moved on, in years gone by this sort of player would have hung around for years but if we are to have a successful player trading model, even the flops should still make a profit.
