Over the weekend, speculation emerged linking Serie A side Salernitana with interest in Rangers’ Glen Kamara.

The same source reiterated that the Finland international is being tracked by a number of clubs across five countries with the suggestion that £10 million is the price to push the button on negotiations.

Kamara remains an integral part of the Rangers first team and an asset who usually excels in the European arena. With that in mind he is likely to feature tomorrow night in Belgium, despite recently being deployed in a role quite different to the one he performed admirably under the leadership of Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale.

The report from 90min stated:

“The 26-year-old has already been the subject of two bids from Turkish giants Galatasaray, but they were below the £10m fee Rangers are believed to be looking for.”

“Galatasaray are expected to return with a third offer, but interest in Kamara is mounting and 90min understands that Salernitana are the latest team to register an interest.”

Despite the above detail, there has been nothing further in terms of a substantial update or development from Italy or Scotland regarding any potential switch.

Balance

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has issued the former Arsenal trainee with a remit to get forward as part of his midfield instructions and whilst he is adaptable and can make an impact – immediately the goal against RB Leipzig comes to mind – it is not a ‘natural’ fit. However, in terms of discussing a possible move for Kamara, it creates a dilemma.

He has been integral for Rangers over the last three seasons, with his best form coming in the Europa League. It would be a big call to sacrifice that stability and to sanction a replacement given the significant turnover already this Summer, including the loss of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo.

The caveat to such a decision would be to bring in a specialist for the 8 or 10 role. An out and out attacker who will get close to double figures in goals to complement the likes of John Lundstram and Ryan Jack, with a defined skillset.
