Absolutely pathetic but not entirely surprising – that just about sums up the mentally of those within the Scotland support who jeered their own player, Ryan Jack, in Saturday’s game against Cyprus.
They are certainly deserving of contempt and all because Jack is a Rangers man, nothing more.
With ‘fans’ like those, there is no need for enemies but it will be interesting to see if the situation is repeated tonight in the World Cup qualifier against Spain at Hampden.
Kris Boyd was very justified in calling out the nonsense in his feature for the Scottish Sun, it’s just a pity that his condemnation wasn’t stronger:
“Once again a small section of the Tartan Army let themselves down at the weekend by booing Ryan Jack.”
“The Scotland midfielder was targeted simply because he plays for Rangers, which I find mind-boggling.”
“I do get that there are Aberdeen fans still disappointed at him leaving for Ibrox, even though that was six years ago. I also get there will be Scotland supporters who aren’t too fond of Rangers either. But I just don’t get what club allegiances have got to do with supporting your country.”
“My message to the minority jeering is get over yourself.”

Scotland will be in for a very tough encounter against the talented and youthful Spain, in what will be a strong test for Jack if he is selected once again, by Steve Clarke.
From a Rangers perspective of course it is good to see him on such a platform against that level of opponent but there will always be concern for a player whose injury track record requires care and individual treatment.
The midfielder has been in good form for Michael Beale in recent times and will have a crucial role to play in the coming weeks, as well as continuing his claim for an extension into the new campaign although the manager is thought to be wanting to make that happen.
The most important thing is that he returns to Auchenhowie in the coming days with a clean bill of health regardless of the idiots in the Scotland support.
