If you aren’t already a fully paid up member of the Ross Wilson fan club, then surely you are now?

In less time than a Carlos Pena contract he has managed to remove all but one player deemed surplus to requirements by Steven Gerrard, getting them off the wage bill and in the shop window in the process.

We weren’t far away at Vital Rangers when we predicted the players that would be heading out and – at the risk of sounding harsh – seeing Brandon Barker go to Oxford United was met with more than a content smile.

Jordan Jones to Sunderland, George Edmundson to Derby County, Jamie Barjonas to Orange County and Barker leaves just Greg Stewart of those we felt would be moving on, they maybe aren’t the biggest deals in our history but three of those players could get us fees that more than cover what we paid for them and that should always be the aim – even if they aren’t good enough for us.

Are you happy with the squad?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It was more through hope than expectation that I thought Barker might leave, he has had more chances than most – Stewart has easily been more productive in terms of numbers in a fraction of the minutes – and just isn’t up to the standard required for his position.

Getting Scott Wright in early has been a bonus, bedding him into a winning team, under no pressure should give him the chance to hit the ground running next season when everyone will start with a clean slate. The bonus of getting Jack Simpson in early and Nnamdi Ofoborh signed up for next season is just the icing on the cake.

As for Mr Wilson, well played sir, well played.
