Rangers have confirmed the loan signing of Malik Tillman from Bayern Munich in what is an exciting and intriguing switch for the attacking midfielder as well as the club.

Sporting director Ross Wilson has remarked on the many options that Tillman had, with obvious delight that the outcome has resulted in the move to Ibrox.

The 20-year old is a product of the Bayern Munich youth system, having made his first team breakthrough last season.

Twice capped by the USA at full senior level, Tillman was involved in Julien Nagelsmann’s side on 21 occasions last season. His seven appearances came in the Bundesliga (4), Champions League (2) and German Cup (1). He also made 15 outings in the fourth tier Regionalliga for Bayern’s B team.

Thrilled

Whilst unproven at first team level, it takes significant quality to make the grade in Bavaria, to be trusted by the likes of Hansi Flick as well as Nagelsmann. Tillman met that challenge and now his next formidable test is to prove himself at Ibrox in another demanding environment.

Rangers will be very happy with the purchase option included in the deal, whilst Bayern have covered their own back with an effective buy-back arrangement, as part of the deal.

Ross Wilson was quoted on the official website, with an sounding of satisfaction:

“We are pleased that amongst his many options Malik has chosen to become a Rangers player.”

“He’s a talented young man, one that we have been working on for a number of weeks. Not only are we pleased to welcome Malik for the season ahead we have also secured an exclusive option to buy with Bayern Munich.”

“We thank Bayern for their cooperation across all of our discussions.”

Five new arrivals have now been confirmed at Ibrox for the new season, with more transfer activity to follow.
