Robert Sarver’s proposed takeover at Rangers, which wasn’t looking like going through anyway, is now off the table.

The American, owner of the Phoenix Suns basketball team, had seen his offer of £18m for a majority stake rejected – an increased offer of £20m came in but this went the same way….

Sarver’s confirmed with a statement that his proposed takeover if off.

He said: ‘Clearly the current directors have a different path they want to go down. I’m disappointed the Rangers board has rejected my revised offer, which addressed the club’s immediate and long-term needs,’ added Sarver, who owns the

‘I hope for the sake of the club and the fans, who’ve been very warm and supportive towards me, that it works out. I wish the club and fans the best of luck.

‘If they want my support in the future, then they only have to ask.’

What now for Rangers?

Shareholder George Taylor does feel that ‘eventually we will be controlled by supporters.’
