Report – Gerrard in £4m midfielder swoop as former Bayern man is linked to Gers

|

Away from the headline grabbing news that is Rangers dossier of evidence presented to member clubs of the SPFL, a transfer rumour linking the Ibrox club with a German youth international and former Bayern Munich midfielder may have gone under the radar.

A report in Rangers News claims that talks are underway with Niklas Dorsch – valued at £4million by Transfermarkt – as they set about building a squad capable of finally regaining their rightful place at the top of Scottish football.

The midfielder currently plying his trade with 1. FC Heidenheim in Bundesliga 2 had been linked with a move to Celtic in December 2019 according to the article but nothing concrete was ever agreed and with his contract set to expire in 2021 his club may be willing to cash-in now rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of his deal.

Who topped scored for Rangers in Dick Advocaat's first season in charge?

With 23 appearances in the league, he is an integral part of the Heidenheim squad and the 22-year old can feel justified about taking the step down to benefit his career in the long run.

He did make the first-team at Bayern and even managed to get on the scoresheet in his solitary league start against Eintracht Frankfurt but was unable to make a regular impression during his time at the German super club.

Dorsch fits the profile of a player on an upward trajectory, one that would be capable of improving Steven Gerrard’s side in the short-term and potentially securing a decent profit should he go on to be a success, in a time of restricted finances, a low risk transfer strategy is one that will pay dividends.
