Assistant manager Gordon Durie has admitted that three points against Raith Rovers on Friday evening provided relief more than anything.

With 31 year old Kris Boyd ending his league goal drought that lasted back to October, his only other goal coming in the Scottish Cup at the end of November, and youngster Andy Murdoch scoring his first for the club – it was a good night for Rangers, and Durie told the Official Site.

‘It was great for Boydy to get back on the score sheet as well so all in all it was a great night for us – Andy’s was a great goal but it was a typical Boydy goal and that was what he needed. He’s been getting chances but they haven’t been going in, so hopefully that will kick start his season and he will have many more to come.’

Moving on to the game a bit more specifically he added.

‘It is a relief to get a win and we’re obviously delighted with the three points because of the run we’ve been on. We never wanted to lose a fourth one and I think the performance pleased us more than the result even though that was very important and I think 2-1 flattered them. I think the boys have shown in the last couple of weeks with their effort and endeavour how committed they are to this cause. They have been battered a bit because we’ve lost three games in a row, which is understandable because we’re at Rangers and that doesn’t happen.’

With Falkirk next up, Durie said it would be another incredibly tough game for us, but everybody has taken a good boost of confidence from that win so hopefully we can go there put in another good performance and continue in a winning vein.

Speaking after the game himself in quotes carried by the Daily Record Kenny McDowall warned the players – especially those out of contract – that they need to start realising the new manager of the club could be watching them now, so they need to start impressing and get themselves on a real run of results.

‘I’m not looking as far ahead as the play offs, I don’t look past the next game. I still don’t know if I’ll be the guy who gets Rangers up because I don’t know if I’ll be here next week. I’m working my notice but with EGM’s and everything else that’s happening, that could change. The situation the out of contract players find themselves in can go two ways. Either their contracts will be renewed or they want. But what they’re doing at the moment might decide it for them. I don’t know who has a chance of getting a new deal and I won’t be involved in it because I’m leaving. But the new guy might be watching them at this moment so the players have to think about that.’
