A significant red-flag warning has been given to Rangers amid reports that Dutch coach Peter Bosz is a contender to take over from his compatriot, Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Bosz will be no stranger to the Ibrox hierarchy, given that he has been at the helm with Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon in recent times on Europa League duty against Steven Gerrard’s teams.

In those games in particular, armed with serious talent, his teams have been impressive with an imposing attacking style leading some to consider him as an option for Rangers to turn to, however in the 58-year old’s native Netherlands, Bosz has been labelled as a gung-ho risk to be avoided.

The revelation came via Rangers Review in conversation with a Feyenoord podcaster, reflecting on the dismissal of Gio but an overview of the former De Kuip player was given.

It was stressed that Bosz has paid the price at high level clubs for his all-out approach which has been to the detriment of results:

“He likes to attack and just wants to play attractive football but he’s not that highly regarded here in Holland because he never wins any prizes. Sometimes it’s like he’s been blindfolded and he doesn’t look at the result.”

“Football is not just about playing attractive football, it’s also about winning and that cost him a job at Ajax, Dortmund and Lyon. If I can recommend a coach, I wouldn’t recommend Peter Bosz. The football is nice but you won’t win anything.”

Shortlist

It had been reported by the Scottish Daily Express that Bosz was a strong contender for the vacancy at Ibrox but that is likely to be fuelled by his availability and relative profile given those positions that he has held over the past few years, as well as other managerial experience in the Netherlands and Israel.

Having just sent one Dutch coach packing, it would be a major surprise if Rangers were to seriously consider another at this moment. As previously outlined, a leader and a winner is required and that is not something that stands out from the reputation and track record of Peter Bosz.
