Nicolas Raskin got his first impression of Ibrox on Saturday but over the last week he has also received a personal boost in the form of his social media.

The 21-year old signed for the club on deadline day last week with the long anticipated move finally confirmed by Rangers. At that point, his followers on Twitter numbered around 7000 but just one week later that figure has increased by 200%.

Now with his Twitter reach in excess of 21,000 the young Belgian will be getting a feel for the difference of size and scale as a Rangers player.

Social media is an integral part of football, as in wider life, nowadays. It creates a fantastic form of communication, outreach and content as well as also providing a platform for some very unpleasant stuff but this anecdote regarding Raskin just goes to show the numbers involved over a short space of time. It will grow even further in the weeks and months to come.

Raskin’s cameo late in the 2-1 win over Ross County was an impressive one, leaving the fans very eager to see more. He was bright, industrious, nimble and looked very capable from the limited involvement he had on Saturday.

The former Standard Liege midfielder said of what can be expected of him on the pitch at his unveiling on Friday:

“I’m okay with my technique but I like to recover balls also and to play forward, one-touch, two-touch, breaking lines, I like to play fast.”

“I can play where the coach wants me to play. If you want me as a 6, I’ll play as a 6. If you want me to play as an 8, I’ll play as an 8. It’s the same for me.”

Just like that, direct and you get what you see. If the early signs are anything to go by, Nicolas Raskin will be a Rangers signing to capture the imagination.
