“Move on and move on quickly” – Goldson makes Kent and Morelos claim

Connor Goldson signed a new Rangers contract in the summer which will see him pass his 33rd birthday and, hopefully, be at the club during his peak.

The Gers vice-captain is obviously one of the biggest voices on and off the pitch for Michael Beale and he will be happy knowing that he has the core of a solid defence who will not need to be replaced for some time after James Tavernier’s own extension and Ben Davies’s arrival in the summer.

What is a little more uncertain is our attack with both Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent no further down the line with their respective deals despite positivity from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the summer.

Speaking to the media at Auchenhowie, Goldson explained that there isn’t much he can do to intervene because every player will have their own list of priorities, however, he urged the club to be decisive, one way or another, as reported by The Glasgow Times:

“Listen, would I love them to stay? Yes. But they have to make their own decision for their careers.

“I didn’t really want anyone speaking to me about it. It was my decision to make with my wife and my family.

“It’s their decision. Listen they are good players and if they want to stay we will be really happy to have them here.

“But if they don’t then Rangers Football Club has to move on and move on quickly to get new players who are ready to win because that’s what we are here for.”

For Kent, I’d imagine that he will have a similar situation to Goldson in that he will know he could make more money down south but, would he be as important or would he just be another player in the squad? He has a manager who knows how to get the best out of him and loves what he brings to the team at Rangers.

Morelos might be another story. Since day one he has been a target, a pantomime villain, who has been treated differently by officials and the media, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he wanted to move elsewhere. I’d also be surprised if the powers that be are willing to give him the pay rise that his representatives will no doubt be asking for though.

Goldson is right, most of us would probably want them both to stay but, if they decide their future lies elsewhere, replace them, and do it quickly.
