Over the last few seasons, Rangers have managed to pull off a few decent transfer coups; Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala and Iani Hagi all being in demand by clubs from Europe’s top five leagues when we persuaded them to move to Glasgow and the bright lights of the Scottish Premiership but none of them would be on the scale of a recent rumour, were Ross Wilson able to pull it off.

PSG’s Xavi Simons is a bona fide wonderkid, a graduate of Barcelona’s La Masia academy but struggling to make an impact on a first-team that features Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel di Maria, there is, of course, no shame in that and as a result is said to be on the move.

His contract expires at the end of this season and will no doubt have a host of clubs after him but, according to reports in Spain, Rangers are interested in securing his services with French outlet RMCSport revealing that a move away from PSG is now “more than likely”:

“For Xavi Simons, at the end of his contract next June, the prospect of leaving at the end of the season is more than likely. If he has already been called up a few times this season in the PSG group, the 18-year-old Dutchman has not played a single minute of play with the first team. “

Manchester City are also named as being in the hunt and for all that they can blow us out the water financially, it doesn’t appear to be the biggest motivating factor for Simons, after all, he is already at one of the richest clubs in the world – the chance to play senior football is what he desires the most which, conveniently, is exactly what we could offer.

Rangers might be a step down from where he is just now but he would still get the chance to compete in Europe and potentially the Champions League, not a bad platform to showcase your talents, that our manager is from the same country as Simons is an added bonus and could be a handy negotiating tool.

Our sporting director has his work cut out over the next few weeks between sorting out contracts, completing deals for new players and fending off unwanted attention for our top performers but if Wilson can convince Simons to move to Scotland, the rest should be a piece of cake.
