The task is pretty simple tonight – win, and by more than two clear goals or by two goals and a penalty shoot-out. A feat that Rangers have never managed before in their European history.

John Lundstram was on press conference duties and it’s safe to say that the Gers midfielder looked fired up as he sets out to right a few wrongs from the first-leg, Union Saint-Gilloise might not fear coming to Ibrox or feel that we are any better than them but Giovanni van Bronckhorst should be sending his team out with exactly that message – scare the living daylights out of them in the first 5-10 minutes and don’t give them a second on the ball.

It’s a cliché but a cliché for a reason, we need a fast start and an early goal, not only will this put USG under immediate pressure but it will get what should be a raucous crowd even more fired up. On numerous occasions last season the team and Ibrox audience seemed to be in perfect harmony, one inspiring the other to greatness.

And greatness is exactly what we will need to achieve.

Never before has a Rangers side come from two goals down to win a European knockout tie.

As we said before the first tie, USG are no mugs, there is a reason they went from the second tier of Belgian football to almost winning the Jupiler Pro League at the first attempt – they are well organised and have an attacking threat but they will have never faced anything like they are about to face tonight.

They might not fear us but let’s make sure, when the final whistle sounds, that they never want to come back to Ibrox again.
