UEFA recently announced their annual set of financial bad boys with Rangers – much to the delight of moon howling Sevcoholics everywhere – placed on their watch list.

All this means is that the continent’s governing body is keeping an eye on our spending/revenue ratio but there is nothing to either worry about or demand answers from our board over, if anything, it explains why we didn’t spend as much money as perhaps we thought we would this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, finance expert, Kieran Maguire is confident that Gers fans shouldn’t be concerned:

“Rangers will be relatively relaxed about being on the Uefa watchlist.

“The qualification for the Champions League group stage this season generates at least £25m and probably a lot more. It’s now up to the club to deliver on the pitch.

“I think realistically, a 3rd place finish would be the most lucrative this season for them in terms of maximising revenues.

“That would also have the desired effect of putting to bed any concerns Uefa might have had about the club’s finances.”

Not only will our Champions League progress ease the financial burden, but selling Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo will also mean that our books will more than balance and will be in very good health, added to the sale of Nathan Patterson and reaching the final of the Europa League, it’s been a very successful 12-months or so in terms of the accounts.

There won’t be a club in world football whose finances are scrutinised so much by their biggest rival’s fans and, for whatever reason, they still seem to think that we are “skint” or that administration is just around the corner again – a fanbase that genuinely hates their rivals more than they love their own club, they must have sleepless nights thinking about our bank balance.
