Premier League striker at Ibrox – on his way to Rangers?

Transfer deadline day has been dying a bit of a slow date in recent years, Rangers in particular choosing the sensible approach of getting most of their work done early in the window so that players are up to speed for European qualifiers.

There has though, been a late rumour emerging and – as always – it’s one born from social media.

Watford striker Troy Deeney has posted a video of himself driving outside of Ibrox, now, if he was heading to the other side of Glasgow, it’s unlikely that you would post such content, it wouldn’t be a great way to start at our new club, especially after a derby defeat.

It could be nothing, and when you consider the players that Steven Gerrard already has available, a move for the 33-year old would be a strange one, especially when the Scottish media had him linked with Celtic earlier in the day.

With Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Fashion Sakala and Jermain Defoe already at his disposal, it’s safe to say that another striker – who would probably command a decent wage – is far from the top of Steven Gerrard’s shopping list for the last hours of the transfer window.

Who scored the winner in Sunday's first Old Firm of 2021/22?

He’s had a good career in England’s top two divisions bing involved in nearly 200 goals in total, but his lack of mobility would be an issue in a Rangers team that demands hard working forwards, Morelos and Roofe might not be the quickest but they are just as comfortable with the ball in the channels as they are through the middle.

Chalk this one up as a non-starter, however, I didn’t think we would see any other midfielders after John Lundstram arrived and in came Juninho Bacuna.
