Rangers released their financial results yesterday and, for the most part, it didn’t make for pleasant reading – not that there were any real surprises given the financial restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic though.

Despite money being tight, signings were still made in the shape of Ianis Hagi, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten in an indication that the board are prioritising getting us back to where we belong, rather than being overly prudent with the purse strings.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, former Gers midfielder, Charlie Adam reckons that this season could be more of the same if the Light Blues want to repeat the success of last season:

“I think it could be very tight.

“It will go down to the split, and how the fixtures come out in the split.

“I think Rangers will invest in January so that will be added as well.”

Unless we sell first, I just can’t see us paying the sort of transfer fees that would be needed to improve the current playing squad.

Adam could be right but I’d be more inclined to think that we will see a similar situation to last season when we secured targets on pre-contract deals before looking to get them through the door earlier – depending on the fees involved.

There are a few names that have been doing the rounds this year with several of them soon to be able to speak to other clubs, the perfect scenario for a club on a budget – if Adam gets his prediction correct, bringing in new faces could be the difference.
