Since Ange Postecoglu took charge across the city, Celtic have spent a lot of time and money shopping in the Far East transfer market, with Rangers rarely venturing outside of the UK – and Belgium.

That could all be about to change though with respected Scottish journalist and domestic Fabrizio Romano, Alan Nixon, claiming that we could be set to beat Celtic in a race for the signature of South Korea’s World Cup hero Gue-Sung Cho.

Writing on his Patreon site, Nixon confirmed that it could all come down to money and that Rangers are pulling out all the stops to persuade the 6ft 2inch tall striker to head to Govan:

“The Glasgow giants are going head to head for the hit man who plays for Jeonbuk Hyundai and is available in a deal worth around £3million.

“Cho is keen to come to the UK and the two Scottish clubs lead the race although insiders believe Rangers are currently trying harder.”

The 24-year old scored two goals in four games in Qatar, raising a profile that was already on the rise after making his international debut in 2021, however, his domestic statistics of 51 goals in 136 appearances suggest that he is far from prolific and for £3m I’d be wanting a lot more for my money.

Kevin Nisbet is in the last year of his contract at Hibernian and the capital outfit have previously turned down bids of a similar fee, with them set to lose Ryan Porteous for peanuts, it’s highly unlikely that they would risk doing the same with their other most valuable asset.

Cho looks like the sort of player who would fit well into Michael Beale’s system, but for the same amount of money, or even less, I’d rather shop local.
