Michael Beale is hoping that Rangers fans will be as excited about the transfer business we might be about to conduct in the coming days and weeks as he is and, if the initial rumours are true, then I don’t think that they will be disappointed.

Norwich City are reportedly open to the sale of Todd Cantwell given that he is out of contract in the summer and looking to find a new club, with a source close to Vital Rangers – and reports circulating on social media – claiming that the England Under-21 international is already in Glasgow to complete his medical.

What sort of fee would be needed to secure a player who was valued at £10million only this time last year is, as yet, unknown, however, when you consider how exciting a prospect Cantwell was when he first burst onto the scene, he will still command a decent figure even if he hasn’t been at his best this season.

Cantwell was described as a “key asset” when Norwich were in the Premier League, demonstrating running power and a positive passing style, attributes that would come in handy playing for Rangers. Goals would be a bonus but, if he was playing in a deeper midfield role, this wouldn’t be his primary objective.

This is the type of player that we have missed in Tom Lawrence’s absence, someone who can move easily between midfield and attack, is comfortable in possession anywhere on the park and will do the hard yards as well – Beale is right, I am as excited as he is.
