Rangers January transfer plans could be interesting, a squad currently depleted by injuries and short of creative options could do with some new faces, but it might not be as simple as that.

We all know the names on the list and what they bring to the squad, however, players like Kemar Roofe can no longer be relied upon to be part of the match-day squad. Giovanni van Bronckhorst certainly can’t plan any tactics around him being available.

Speaking ahead of our Scottish Premiership fixture with Aberdeen, the Gers gaffer addressed the subject of potential new arrivals, as reported by The Rangers Review:

“As I said before, we are missing a lot of players now who are injured. Hopefully, we can welcome some injured players back by the time the window opens. We have to be ready for whatever happens but it also depends on how many players we have back from injury.”

I hope we don’t get the “Ianis Hagi is like a new player” when the Romanian international returns to full fitness, I think that might just be enough to send some fans over the edge. There is a desperate need to add freshness to the squad, particularly in midfield.

Preparations for next season should begin in January, I was never a fan of Scott Arfield and Steven Davis having their contracts extended and they’ve not done enough to suggest that it should even be entertained again by Ross Wilson.

Arfield has done well in spells but he has had to play far more minutes than expected because of the queue outside our treatment room.

Injuries should have no effect on how many players we bring in, we should already have a list of names who can push us on to another level because the one we are currently at is far from good enough.
