Rangers fans have been told by Steven Gerrard that they could see transfer activity completed during the international break and there are just a couple of areas that the gaffer could be looking to improve.

One such position is in attack with Brandon Barker being promoted to the starting XI in the absence of Joe Aribo, although he has looked threatening during build up play, his decision making and quality in and around the box has so far been lacking, a contributing factor to the recent scorelines not reflecting the dominance of the Light Blues.

A previous transfer target that could offer a solution to this problem is Rodrigo Riquelme, the Atletico Madrid forward who tormented Nathan Patterson and the rest of the Gers academy squad in a UEFA Youth League fixture earlier in the year.

He provided assists for all four of his side’s goals in a comfortable victory and given his current contract status, Gerrard and Ross Wilson could do a lot worse that enquire about the availability of player who has a release clause north of €30million.

Riquelme is currently training with Reading, of all teams, ahead of a possible loan move but Atletico are hoping to extend his deal past the end of this season when it is due to expire and avoid losing the talented youngster for nothing.

Should Rangers move for Riquelme?

The club from the East End of Glasgow have previously been linked with the Spanish youth international, however, as yet, no formally offer has been made, leaving the way clear for Rangers to secure the services of another of European football’s hottest prospects and one that could provide the missing component of an attack on the cusp of blowing teams away.
