Rangers preparations for next season are well underway with three January signings being followed up with the early announcement of Fashion Sakala, a sure sign that the achievements of this season have already been forgotten about with bigger fish to fry next season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Kevin Phillips believes that his former England team-mate Steven Gerrard won’t be standing still when the transfer window officially opens:

“You can’t rest on your laurels now.

“You want to go and win that second title and get Rangers back to where they were a few years ago.

“They can’t fall behind because Celtic will be stronger next year, he has to say that. But he will say that because he’s already shown how professional he is.

“How focused he is in getting the best out of what he’s got. I’ve said all along, the recruitment in a football club is massive. It can make it break you.

“They will recruit this summer. I think they can get two, maybe three quality players, and that squad is going to be strong again next year.

“It’s another reason for the fans to get excited.”

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

They are a shambles across the city, they will undoubtedly have some sort of recovery but they need so many players as well as a management team and director of football that it will be impossible to predict what sort of challenge they will put up, we have to concentrate on ourselves and as Gerrard said it’s always better to “fix the roof whilst the sun shines“.
