Now that the season is officially over, the transfer rumour mill has gone into overdrive and one of the latest names to be linked with a move to Ibrox is Colombian winger, Santiago Moreno.
Valued at £5million, Rangers face stiff competition in the race for his signature with Leeds United also said to be after him but, Alan Hutton, speaking to Football Insider, hopes that he chooses to head to Glasgow:
“Look, it’s difficult. The lure of the Premier League is absolutely huge, massive in terms of for a player.
“I’m just trying to think in his shoes, you’re going up against some of the best players in the world week in, week out, in the strongest league. Let’s face it, Leeds are an excellent team. They’re not going to be fighting relegation. They’re looking to be top 10 and build.
“It’s a massive opportunity for him but on the flip side of that coin, you can go to Rangers. They’ve got a fantastic, young manager at the moment.
“They’re looking to build, go forward and win trophies. Hopefully, they’ll be playing in the Champions League.
“It’s a fantastic position to be in for a striker at the moment. It’ll be a real tough choice but hopefully, for me, I want him to pick Rangers.”
Playing in the SPFL is never going to attract the best or most promising players, however, the lure of the Champions League and a global icon as manager is something we should make the most of, Hutton is right, the Premier League – especially in terms of finances – is a huge pull, but the “Gerrard factor” should never be downplayed.
