Rangers will have a busy summer one way or another and Michael Beale has already hinted in January about the positions that he is looking to upgrade.

A goalkeeper and a number nine are a must, even if Antonio Colak is doing everything to prove that he could be the man to take us forwards but centre-half might have been a surprise to some, given that we have decent numbers on the books.

With reports suggesting that Rangers are keeping tabs on Denmark Under-21 international Thomas Kristensen, the biggest question being how much we would be willing to pay for a player with good potential but who wouldn’t be first choice.

Transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher at Football Insider has claimed that we wouldn’t have to break the bank for a player who is attracting a lot of attention:

“Rangers are keeping tabs on Aarhus GF defender Thomas Kristensen ahead of the summer window.

“It is likely he could be signed for a six-figure fee, or low seven-figure fee, even though he has a contract running until the summer of 2026.

“Despite some reports the club will mainly be targeting English-based talent there is in fact a big effort going into identifying and targeting young European talent.”

Much like the third striker role, finding someone who has the quality to provide backup and to rotate in the middle of defence is not an easy task and, usually, either an experienced veteran or a promising youngster are the best options.

We won’t be spending the sort of sums that Dick Advocaat used to get this summer so we have to get more transfers right than wrong, we also have to make sure that the money that is spent is spent wisely.
