Occam’s Razor is a phrase used to describe when the simplest explanation is usually the correct one, now, I’ve never been one for jumping to conclusions but, if reports are accurate, we might not be seeing Borna Barisic or Calvin Bassey for much longer in a Rangers shirt.

Vital Rangers has already reported on our interest in Stoke City’s marauding left-back, Josh Tymon, and with two already at the club, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that space would have to be made for the England youth cap’s arrival, especially when you consider that he would probably command a fee of around £5million but, as claimed by Football Insider, it would appear that there could already be something going on in the background:

“Rangers have made an enquiry for Stoke City defender Josh Tymon, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

“The Glasgow giants are in the market for an attacking full-back who can slot into the left side of their defence. A Rangers source has told Football Insider that the club have registered their interest in signing Tymon, 23, in the summer window.

“He has a contract that runs until the summer of 2025 after penning an extension last November.

“That means Rangers and other suitors will have to pay a multi-million pound fee to lure one of the Championship’s most reliable left-backs.”

One of Tymon’s qualities is, like James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, he never misses a game and has an incredible athleticism, exactly what you need at a club that regular plays close to 60 games a season, added to this, that he is an aggressive, front foot full-back means that he perfectly suits our system and style of play.

As yet, there have been no bids for either Barisic – who played 90 minutes for Croatia against France on Monday night – or Bassey, despite there being plenty of clubs credited with keeping an eye on him, however, it could be that Rangers are wanting to get a replacement in first before letting either of the two key members of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad leave.

Personally, I think it makes more sense to sell Bassey, we would have money to spend and still have plenty left over to put aside for a rainy day, the perfect example of how a player trading model should work plus, despite the occasional dip in form, we can still trust Barisic to do a job with Tymon either keeping him on his toes or reducing him to a quality back-up who still has plenty of time on his contract.

This is a rumour that is refusing to go away and one that ticks a lot of boxes, a transfer that makes sense and would keep the fans happy, surely not?
