“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Jones would like to secure a permanent return south of the border after an impressive loan spell at Sunderland.”
Jones was worth the punt because he was available on a pre-contract agreement but if you compare and contrast the Mark Allen signing to the likes of John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala who have arrived this summer, and were courted by Ross Wilson, then it’s easy to see the gulf in quality.
How far will Rangers go in the Champions League?
Yes, against Midtjylland and Willem II he was outstanding and showed what he was capable of but it simply didn’t happen often enough for the 12-cap Northern Ireland international, and he was given more than enough time to prove that he could be a useful weapon in attack.
Unfortunately, his time at Rangers will always be remembered for off the field incidents rather than what he contributed on it, if we can get a decent six or seven-figure fee, then at least we’ve turned a profit.
