Rangers to make changes against Saints with key player dropping out

|

Rangers take the trip to Perth to face St Johnstone in an attempt to keep the pressure on Celtic who entertain Kilmarnock later in the day.

Steven Gerrard has some interesting selection issues with the second leg of their Europa League tie against Braga in Portugal on Wednesday.

With star man Alfredo Morelos now suspended he is more likely to lead the line and play the full ninety minutes – officials permitting – looking to get back on the goal scoring trail, in fairness, he hasn’t had much luck so far in 2020 with two perfectly good goals disallowed.

The biggest question will be whether or not the Rangers boss sticks with Ryan Kent in support of the Colombian or – with Morelos’ mid-week suspension in mind – Florian Kamberi gets a run out from the start given how he has impressed in his cameo appearances so far.

Should Steven Gerrard give Ryan Kent a rest?

Yes

No

No

Ianis Hagi hasn’t played the same volume of games as the rest of the Rangers squad and will resume his place behind Morelos as he continues to demonstrate that he is worth every penny of the £4m fee that it would take to make his signing permanent, something that Gary McAllister hinted may be on the cards sooner rather than later in the pre-match press conference.

Ryan Jack returns in midfield and should be used to give Steven Davis a rest and the out-of-form Glen Kamara likely to be ousted by Joe Aribo after his heroics against Braga, Scott Arfield’s form dictates that he is one of the few guaranteed to take up a place in the engine room.

In defence, the only issue that Gerrard faces is the kidney injury to Borna Barisic which, despite Aribo’s stellar job on Wednesday, is likely to be filled by Andy Halliday who at least has recent game time under his belt and played well in the most recent league fixture against Livingston.

Whoever the gaffer picks need to show the last thirty minutes of the performance against Braga rather than the first hour if they are to maintain any slim hopes they have of catching Celtic in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership title.
