Michael Beale spoke at the start of the transfer window about looking to bring in two to four players but that the most important thing was that they were players of quality.

In Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin we might be at the lower end of what he wanted, however, there is no doubting that they are players who instantly upgrade the match-day squad.

The rumour mill was pretty quiet in terms of bids with the only other player who seemed to slip through our grasp being Morgan Whittaker with the Swansea City forward, seemingly, the subject of a failed bid.

Swans boss Russell Martin has been asked about Whittaker’s failed move and explained how it was out of his hands, as reported by The Rangers Review:

“The whole thing about Morgan, I’ve got a brilliant relationship with him. I hope that’ll show in the next three months. He understood why I wanted him to go out on loan and play football.

“He’s come back and not been frustrated with me, I didn’t make the decision to call him back. Again, it’s not in my control. He’ll be in the squad tomorrow. I’ve had Rangers fans message me on Linkedin saying let him go. I apologised to them saying sorry I was crap at your club but it’s not my decision.”

At least he apologised for his efforts in the 2016/17 season, however, we would rather have had Whittaker in our ranks. As already covered by Vital Rangers, the 22-year old had been recalled to allow him to be sold but injuries led to the Swansea board deciding against selling him and instead, making him part of Martin’s squad for the rest of the season.

These things happen and it is another reminder that signing players isn’t quite as simple as it is on Football Manager.
