Cedric Itten appeared to be a man with unfinished business at Ibrox but since his January return, his lack of an impact has been telling.

The Swiss international was given an opportunity by Giovanni van Bronckhorst to prove his worth however nothing materialised and now the club will listen to offers for his transfer – according to Football Insider.

With Alfredo Morelos’ absence in January due to international duty, there was a void to be filled. The early ploy from Gio to play with high wingers would surely have favoured Itten – who would be staying centrally and not asked to drop deep like the strikers were under Steven Gerrard. It was destined to work? No, sadly the reality was much different.

VR’s Gavin Kelly stated earlier today on this emerging story:

“Sometimes transfers just don’t work out and this can be for a variety of reasons; injury, loss of form, pressure or not fitting into a team’s style of play, for Cedric Itten, a lack of consistent game time is probably the biggest cause.”

Unconvincing

It could also be argued that a consistent run of games didn’t come because the application was not there from the Swiss. In his time on the pitch previously and especially since his return from a loan spell with Greuther Furth in the Bundesliga earlier this season, Itten was far from convincing and hasn’t earned the right to play.

It just looks like this move isn’t to be – not all moves will work as Gavin pointed out therefore Ross Wilson will have a job on his hands to recoup as much of the outlay for the 25-year old as possible.

A return to his native Switzerland could well be the likely destination.
