Not only was Rangers 3-1 win over Motherwell at the weekend a sizeable marker in the championship race but the Gers gaffer also gave fans some reassuring news heading in to the transfer window, as reported by the Glasgow Times.

During the summer, despite bids for both Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, the Rangers board backed Steven Gerrard by refusing to budge despite decent offers in terms of the sums of money involved, if not in terms of meeting their valuations of players.

Speaking after the weekend’s win he reinforced the point that there are more important things this season than the bank balance:

“None of our big players will be going anywhere in January. I’m well aware of the club’s situation and what we need to do moving forward.

“Of course I totally understand that at some point we will have to trade someone. I’m not naive enough to think that we won’t have to do that.

“But it’s extremely important that we keep our best players certainly in the next window and that they are here for the duration of the season. I think the board are aware of that and want that as well.

“So we are certainly on the same page. Moving forward, we are at a club where we need to keep active in terms of recruitment and bringing people in. But that also means that, at the right time, the right player might have to move in a different direction. We are well aware of that.”

Will we win the title if we keep our key players but bring nobody in?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It’s reassuring that there is no rush to cash-in on valuable players and that nobody, other than those on the fringe, will be moved on, we now have a top quality scouting and recruitment department and one that we should trust to source adequate for replacements when the time comes to sell.
