After being drawn against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League, Rangers fans can be quietly confident of progressing to the last 16 for the second year in a row.

The restoration of our reputation on the continent has been Steven Gerrard’s greatest achievement – so far anyway – that he has lost just one game at Ibrox against Bayer Leverkusen, says everything about how well we have performed in the European football’s second competition.

The Gers gaffer is also just one win away from securing the same number of victories as Walter Smith and Dick Advocaat, when you consider the resources and players that they had at their disposal, to be closing in on such a milestone so quickly in his reign is truly outstanding.

The draw against Antwerp is encouraging, they currently sit level on points with Standard Liege in the Jupiler League, we beat them both at home and away in the group stages although the scoreline perhaps didn’t reflect how hard we had to work for each win.

Will Rangers progress to the last 16?

Having banked a significant amount of money so far for winning four and drawing two group games, as well as going through as winners, Rangers now have the chance to bank a seven figure sum with every round that they progress – making the last 16 is rewarded with a £1million bonus, and that is based on 2019/20 figures.

Money will also be raised from TV rights and hopefully, by the time that February comes around, fans will be allowed into the ground, a sight that will be even more welcome than another big cheque provided by UEFA.
