Simply not good enough – One in nine isn’t on, Gerrard needs to sort it out

This is becoming a very, very bad habit and one that Steven Gerrard needs to sort out quickly.

We can celebrate winning the league in it’s own right, park it up, and look at the cup performances since he arrived, aside from the League Cup final – which we lost against Celtic – our performances have been nowhere near good enough.

To make things worse, the record stands at one final from nine attempts. Defeats against St Mirren, a relegated Hearts team and now St Johnstone do not look good on the gaffer’s CV especially this season when you consider that Celtic had been knocked out of both competitions,  leaving the way clear for us to clean up.

He has to find a way to win these games because at the moment it simply isn’t good enough.

Without analysing too deeply I thought the players did look up for it and worked hard enough, it’s a lazy suggestion to say St Johnstone “wanted it more”, we simply didn’t take the chances that we did create and Zander Clark was in inspired form for Callum Davidson’s side – if he has a better game in his career he’ll be doing well – a hero at both ends of the park for them.

All that’s left from a season that promised so much is an unbeaten league campaign but the players need to realise, the league is won, it’s already in the past, all that matters is the next trophy, and on that count, they have failed and failed miserably.
