Despite recent speculation, Oli McBurnie to Rangers will not be happening – according to David Edgar of Heart and Hand podcast.

The long established and reputable, accredited fan media outlet has a line of communication to Ibrox and the dismissal of the McBurnie link can be taken as read.

As alluded to above, the McBurnie link won’t disappear for obvious reasons.

It doesn’t stand up to scrunity and here is where the speculation falls down.

The Scotland international just doesn’t seem the type of player to lead the Rangers attack under the Gerrard/Beale style of play with the fluid interchangeable approach.

With a £10.8 million price tag on McBurnie’s head from Transfermarkt, Rangers aren’t likely to be paying that sort of money for one player, certainly not from the top end of the English Championship and Sheffield United who would be looking to maximise their return on a player with two years remaining on his contract.

The Sheffield Star reported:

‘United paid a fee of around £18 million to take the bustling forward from Swansea into the top flight two seasons ago and reports suggest that they are would be hoping to recoup the majority of that if they were to sell McBurnie, with £15 million the figure being reported as one that could be accepted by the Bramall Lane hierarchy.’

‘Whether Rangers would be prepared to pay that is another matter.’

‘Another issue is that Gerrard won’t be adding another ‘senior’ striker unless one goes out the door.’

This move is just not likely to materialise – it does not add up on several fronts.
