Rangers have now won five domestic games in a row, and yet, fans are, rightly, far from happy with what they are currently seeing.

The 1-0 win over Dundee looked like a team that had been thrown together and contained players who were rusty, however, man for man, we were by far the better team and should have been a lot more comfortable than we were. We certainly shouldn’t have needed Jon McLaughlin to come racing out his box to prevent a certain goal and stop the game going to extra-time.

Scott Wright, as reported by The Daily Record, was quick to emphasise that the players know that they aren’t anywhere near top gear and that every effort is being made to find form:

“The standards we set as a team, not just the fans. They set a standard for us but we set standards within the club ourselves and we know we haven’t really been hitting them as of yet really. But the most important thing is we know we can give more.

“It is going to be patient and it is the sake of us trying to keep building on what we are trying to do and we know the fans are going to stick with us . They set the standard and it is important that we double down on what we believe in, stick to the beliefs within the club and we stick together as a team on the pitch.

“It is a case of us just going away, see what’s going wrong and trying to build on it. The exciting thing is we know we can be better and as I said the standards set within the club, we know we can hit them and there is more to get from this team.”

Unlike some, I don’t think fitness or effort is a problem. For me, it’s confidence. Players are taking too many touches, aren’t taking risks and are scared to make a mistake. After a few heavy defeats and players having to play through injury due to others being missing, it’s easy to see why some might not be at their best though.

Encouragingly, before games and in post-match interviews, the players seem fully engaged with where we are trying to get to and are taking ownership for not playing well, there are no excuses and they are holding themselves to account for not reaching the standards that are set by everyone connected to the club.

I`m not Scott Wrights biggest fan but I hope he gets a start against Livvy . He showed on Wednesday he is better than Matondo and Sakala who may have pace but have no idea what to do with it .Why we signed them I don`t know , they look as if they have never seen a ball before, at times.
