After signing two of their top targets so far this summer, Rangers have missed out on potentially the biggest name that we have seen linked with a move to Ibrox.

Valued at £15million, Rafael Santos Borre is a well known face in European and South American football with Atletico Madrid, Villareal and River Plate most recently amongst the clubs that he has played for and, after leaving the Argentinian outfit, the 25-year old has returned back across the Atlantic to sign for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, who finished fifth in the German top flight last season – as reported by HITC.

Currently playing for Colombia in the Copa America – not scoring goals and still keeping Alfredo Morelos out the team – Borre would realistically only have become an option had we sold El Bufalo given the wages that he would likely demand.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

It is though yet another example of the work that our recruitment team are doing that such a player is a realistic prospect now rather than scraping the depths of Scottish football, it wasn’t that long ago that Rangers fans were wanting us to sign players from the likes of Ayr United and Dunfermline – Borre will probably be lining up against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the semi-final of one of the game’s biggest tournaments.

Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram are excellent signings and, for all that I would be gutted to see Morelos leave if Porto come in with a serious offer, there is a part of me that’s a little bit excited about who Ross Wilson might have lined up should he depart these shores.
