“Difficult to knock back” – Bargain fee for Euro star makes no sense

In a week where Barry Ferguson started speaking sense, he’s already ruined it for himself with a bizarre valuation of one of Steven Gerrard’s best players.

Glen Kamara has been a stand out performer in the European Championships for Finland and yet our former skipper is claiming that we should accept the same price for the 25-year old that Celtic accepted for Stuart Armstrong when Southampton paid £7million for him.

Speaking to The Daily Record, the Alloa Athletic manager said:

“I hope they don’t need to sell anyone but it could be that Rangers receive an offer they can’t refuse for a player such as Alfredo Morelos or Glen Kamara.

“Everyone knows how highly I rate Morelos but if an offer of £15m-plus was to come in for a guy who only cost £1m, then that would represent some bit of business.

“Similarly, having snapped Kamara up for £50k – which might be the most ridiculous pound-for-pound signing the club ever made – it might be difficult to knock back offers of around £7m for a guy who walked into the Euros in a Finland shirt and looked as if he belongs at that level.

“Either way, Gerrard will have replacements lined up.”

It doesn’t matter that we only paid £50,000 for Glen Kamara, he is one of the most technically gifted midfielders to play in Scotland for years, and has shown, competing at the highest level of tournament football, that he belongs on the big stage – something we already knew from his Europa League and Old Firm performances.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

You would think someone like Fergie would want to further enhance the reputation of our players, not down play their worth, this, remember from the same man who claimed that Odsonne Edouard was worth £35m – sometimes it’s better to keep your opinions to yourself.
