Ryan Kent’s performance agains Hearts was hopefully an indication that he is close to being back to his best, all he need was a goal to round off what was as good a display as we have seen from him in a Rangers shirt – the numbers from the game back this up.

But for a good save from Scott Arfield by Craig Gordon, Kent would have had three assists for his afternoon’s work, and they weren’t the sort of assists that raise eyebrows either like laying off a shot for someone 30 yards out, he put team-mates clean through or with just the keeper to beat.

According to Sofascore, the 25-year old had four key passes and created three big chances and that doesn’t include the two times he steered efforts of his own narrowly past the post, sometimes he should take a leaf out of Alfred Morelos’s book and just focus on getting his shots on target rather than looking for the smallest of targets, you get the feeling that he just needs one or two to go on a run.

He also made five tackles, won nine out of 13 ground duels and only lost possession nine times, in short, he was outstanding both in and out of possession – he should also have had a penalty.

We know that he is capable of that sort of performance but we need to see it more often, he is a match winner and when he plays like that it takes pressure off Joe Aribo and Alfredo Morelos, it must be a nightmare for defences having to keep an eye on the three of them only to see Scott Arfield running into space behind them.

Kent has his own song for a reason, it would be nice to hear it on a regular basis between now and the end of the season, if the Hearts game is anything to go by, Premiership defences could be in for a bit of bother.
