There has been a lot of speculation about what Rangers might or might not be getting as compensation for the departure of Steven Gerrard.

Figures as low as £2million being quoted by mainstream media outlets claiming to be in the know, however, as Vital Rangers has covered in the past, our club is a different entity and the best places to go for confirmation is the likes of Heart and Hand, Follow Follow and The Fourth Official.

The latter two have been reporting that for Gerrard alone the figure that are receiving is some £4.5m, not bad for a rookie manager who has won only one trophy out of nine, as they keep telling us, when you consider that the rest of the coaching staff will have commanded a considerable fee it’s our most expensive transfer since Alan Hutton.

The player trading model is one aspect of the business but, like Southampton where Ross Wilson came from, managers are also a valuable commodity and can be just as useful at improving the bank balance.

This is especially true when there is a ready made replacement who fits our playing style and would immediately be able to work with our squad with minimal disruption – step forward Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

It just makes sense. Right down to style of play, even if you ignore that he played for Rangers, and he wouldn’t cost a penny.

If we can lose our manager and replace him with someone of equal, or even better standing, then we aren’t far away from getting things right – it’s time for Ross Wilson to earn his money.
